Ann-Hua Chinese School Earns WASC Accreditation

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann-Hua Chinese School (AHCS) is proud to announce that it has been granted full accreditation by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This recognition follows a comprehensive self-study and an in-depth site visit conducted by a team of peer educators who evaluated the school’s programs with a focus on student learning and well-being in accordance with WASC criteria. The visiting committee’s report, reviewed and approved by the WASC Commission, highlights schoolwide strengths and areas for continuous improvement.

“We are thrilled that Ann-Hua Chinese School has received full WASC accreditation for the next six years (2025–2031), following our initial accreditation in 2022 and an intensive three-year self-study,” said Dr. Lingzhi Chen, Chair of the AHCS Accreditation Committee, former Principal of Academics (2020–2025), and current Board Member.

“It was wonderful to see all the great work Ann-Hua Chinese School is doing. This recognition is well deserved,” said Mr. Brian Jensen, Chair of the WASC Visiting Committee.

The visiting committee praised the school for the following key strengths:

2. Stable, passionate leadership sustaining long-term development in a volunteer-based model.
3. Standards-aligned curriculum with pathways in language, STEM, and cultural enrichment.

The committee also affirmed the school’s action plan for continued growth:

• Goal 1: Enhance teaching and learning through curriculum refinement, use of data, and integration of technology including AI.
• Goal 2: Expand the Math Program to serve a broader student population, including non-Chinese speakers.

"The ACS WASC Commissioners have determined Ann-Hua Chinese School (K-AD) meets the ACS
WASC criteria for accreditation. It is the decision of the Commission to grant six-year accreditation status through June 30, 2031, with a mid-cycle report in the 2027-2028 school year.” “ACS WASC委员会认定安华中文学校（K-AD）符合ACS WASC认证标准。该委员会决定授予该校有效期为六年的认证资格，有效期至2031年6月30日，并要求在2027-2028学年提交中期报告”。

5/12/2025 The Virtual Visit this past Sunday was successfully completed! Thanks should go to all those involved, especially our team, student，teacher and parent representatives who took the time to talk with Mr. Jensen, the WASC representative.  On May 14th, our team was informed by the Visiting Committee that Ann-Hua Chinese School is now being recommended for accreditation consideration by the WASC June Comisssion meeting.  We should hear from them in early July.  五月十一日的认证复审访谈会顺利结束！校方真诚地感谢所有团队代表、学生、老师及家长代表们的积极配合和参与。现在WASC代表已向其六月份的审核委员会推荐安华中文学校继续被考虑其认证资格，我们可望七月初得到确切消息。

5/9/2025 May 11 is the Ann-Hua Chinese School’s Accreditation Virtual Visit with WASC! 五月十一日是安华中文学校认证复审见面会的大日子！

2/20/2025: Great news! The Ann-Hua Chinese School Accreditation Committee heard from the WASC Committee that they approved the self-study (review) report submitted by AHCS on 1/22/2025.  The AHCS Committee will work on incorporating recent feedback from everyone involved and target it for the end of March (before 3/30/2025) to submit the final report to WASC.  Upon the submission, the WASC Committee and Ann-Hua Chinese School Committee will move forward with setting up the visit day, May 11, 2025.  The AHCS Committee will keep everyone informed as the visit day approaches.  Thank you, everyone, for your continuous support. Without it, we could not have gotten this far!

The board of directors, executive committee, and school leadership will work with the teachers, students, staff, students, and parents to provide students at Ann-Hua Chinese School with a better learning experience. 2022年7月6日安华中文学校陈玲芝校长接到正式通知，安华中文学校获得美国西部学校与学院教育联盟认证机构（WASC）授予的专业性全方位认证！陈玲芝校长含着眼泪说，“这个消息振奋人心！通过如此专业的认证是安华中文学校近30年历史上的一重要里程碑。”WASC的正式通知里郑重地阐明，在WASC认证机构六月份的评审会议上，经过一系列严格的审核，地处美国密西根州安娜堡市的安华中文学校被认定达到所有补充教育机构的专业标准，是一所合格的提供全方位语言文化、数学科技辅导及技能培养（课后/周末;含学前班-成人）的补充教育机构，此认证资质有效期为2022年6月30日到2025年6月30日。

这骄人的成果背后不仅是安华中文学校近30年的发展中奠定的坚实基础，更有自2018年安华协会成立以来的求变求发展的方针给安华中文学校加速其标准化、专业化、正规化进程提供的契机。成为一所被主流教育认可的补充教育机构，让我们的孩子们在安华学习的成果得到官方承认，是安华中文学校、也是北美众多的像安华这样的“语言学校”的梦想。安华中文学校认证工作组在校长陈玲芝的带领下，于今年一月十九日开始了正式的认证申请进程，四月二十三日上交了长达63页的初级认证申请报告，五月八日顺利通过全天的面审，五月十日WASC面审委员会主任Mr. Brian Jensen 向WASC 年中审核委员会推荐安华中文学校被考虑全面认证；6月底的WASC审核委员会会议批准通过了该申请。

Ann-Hua Chinese School Receives WASC Accreditation

Ann Arbor, MI – Ann-Hua Association/Ann-Hua Chinese School is pleased to announce that Ann-Hua Chinese School has been granted accreditation status by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The announcement was made after the school completed a detailed school report and hosted an initial visit by fellow educators to examine the school program in relation to student learning and well-being based on the WASC criteria. The resulting initial visiting report that was reviewed by the WASC Commission summarized schoolwide strengths and growth areas for continuous improvement. This is a critical first step in the school’s continuous improvement journey that involves all stakeholders in a deeper analysis of its program based on the WASC criteria through the self-study/visit process.

“We are overjoyed and very proud. This is one of the few major milestones for the school.  We started almost 30 years ago from 15 students to now with over 400 students annually. Ann-Hua Chinese School has come a long way and we are motivated to do better moving forward, “says Dr. Lingzhi Chen, Principal (Academics) of Ann-Hua Chinese School.   

“The visiting committee was particularly impressed with their initial visit report that was thorough and supported by appropriate evidence”, says Mr. Brian Jensen, the WASC visiting committee chair. “The SEP (Ann-Hua Chinese School) has developed a strong mission and purpose that guides their decision making. There is strong evidence of a collective commitment to the mission, purpose, and support for each student in the program. The Governing Board and administration team maintain a cooperative working relationship, which promotes the responsibility, accountability, and collaboration. They have strong relationships with parents and students who volunteer at the school, including serving on the Board, administration, and leadership. This is central to their “community-based” organizational philosophy. There is demonstration of student learning growth because of the program. “

The letter from WASC’s review committee also mentions some key areas of growth that Ann-Hua Chinese School is planning to work on. In terms of growth, Ann-Hua has developed and maintains an ongoing multi-year strategic plan that serves as their action plan. According to the plan, Ann-Hua will continue to focus on the further refinement of their assessment collection and analysis to integrate more formally internal and external data. Using their assessment data analysis protocols, continue to review and refine curricular offerings in a systematic way to ensure they include additional resources and academic supports to support identified student specific needs and strengthen supports to help students. Finally, Ann-Hua will continue to build on the work they have done in formalizing their documentation of policies and practices to further operationalize and institutionalize their guiding practices.

WASC accreditation validates the integrity of a school’s program and transcripts and assures a community that the school’s goals are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable education program. Furthermore, WASC accreditation is a certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning and well-being that is committed to continuous improvement and high-quality learning and well-being for all students.

Through the WASC ongoing accreditation cycle, the school conducts an in-depth self-study, normally every five or six years, hosts a visit by fellow educators and engages all stakeholders in a follow-up process of implementing, monitoring, and refining the resulting schoolwide action plan.
