Objectives:
The objectives for Pre-AP Chemistry course (often called General Chemistry I) typically aim to
introduce students to the fundamental concepts and principles of chemistry. The core learning
objectives include, but not limit to the following:
1. Understand the Scientific Method and Measurement
2. Describe Matter and Its Properties
3. Understand Atomic Structure and Periodicity
4. Understand Chemical Bonding and Molecular Structure
5. Learn Chemical Nomenclature
6. Perform Chemical Calculations
7. Understand Chemical Reactions and Perform Chemical Calculations
8. Understand the Behavior of Gases
9. Understand Thermochemistry
10. Understand Chemical Equilibrium and Kinetics
Course Description:
This introductory course provides a foundational understanding of the principles of chemistry.
Topics include the structure of atoms and molecules, the periodic table, chemical bonding,
stoichiometry, chemical reactions, gas laws, and thermochemistry. Emphasis is placed on
developing problem-solving skills and applying theoretical concepts to real-world situations.
This course is designed for students in 7-9th grades to prepare for AP or competition Chemistry
in High School.
