Course Description

课程简介(Course Overview )
The geometry course includes an in-depth analysis of lines, triangles, circles, and
coordinate geometry as they relate to both abstract mathematical concepts as well as
real-world problem situations. Topics include logic and proof, parallel lines and
polygons, perimeter and area analysis. Emphasis will be placed on developing critical
thinking skills as they relate to logical reasoning and problem solving. Students will be
required to use different technological tools and approaches to discover and explain
much of the course content.

教材 (Textbooks)
The Art of Problem Solving - Introduction to Geometry by Richard Rusczyk
The textbook is not required, as all the content will be given to students in class.
Course Materials
Compass, straightedge (ruler), protractor, plain paper, pencil, eraser, calculator

家庭作业规则 Homework Policy
The students should review the class materials regularly. Spend about 15 minutes each day on the homework
problems. Students should complete all homework by the next class. Homework assignments will be available
on the google classroom website. Late or incomplete homework will incur a grading penalty.
The final exam does count towards the student’s grade. Parents are encouraged to help the students whenever
needed.

There will be some challenging bonus problems at the end of each homework. They are optional.

Class Description

Jan Gombert Jan Gombert Biography

I have taught high school and college level mathematics for ten years in a variety of settings, from England to Honolulu to Detroit. I have also spent much of my life as a manager, designer, and developer in three different software startup companies, creating products in computer graphics, education, and medical monitoring. My work has taught me that the value of a good mathematics education goes far beyond the ability to do well on your SAT and get into college – it gives you the ability to think hard and solve all sorts of problems in the real world.

That is what I am driven to teach – how to think and solve problems. My commitment to Ann-Hua Chinese School is to give my students those same gifts that were given to me.
