Course Description

课程内容:

Math 2B is designed to provide students the foundation that is needed for success in Algebra I and future rigorous math subjects. It includes 2 major parts: problem solving and pre-algebra.

Problem solving is to teach students to think when engaging in a task for which the solution method is not known in advance. Students will learn to explore, analyze, think creatively, implement accurately, model, and generalize. Problem solving ability will help students develop profound understandings of math concepts and have special importance for students’ future mathematical learning.

Pre-Algebra is an introductory algebra course. Students will review basic math concepts regarding number sense and the rules regarding math operations and the order of implementation. Students will

  • Study operations with integers, decimal, fractions, percent and exponents,
  • Solve one- and two- variable equations,
  • Explore expressions and graphing linear functions.
  • Practice algebraic thinking in order to model and solve real world problems.

Pre-requisite skills:

  • Strong number sense and knowledge of place value
  • Operations with integers
  • Order of Operations
  • Proficient with all operations of fractions and decimals Core Course Topics and Objectives

Unit 1 Variables, Expressions, Equations and Functions • Variables, Expressions and Equations • Solve 1- and 2- variable Equations • Proportional equations and Proportional Reasoning • Word Problem/Real-world applications • Graphing/Understanding of functions (inputs/outputs)

李忠瑞 Zhongrui Li Biography

Teaching and learning enrich lives. Being a formally trained teacher in STEM, Dr. Li has been actively involved in various levels of education for over 20 years. His teaching experience ranges from being a private tutor to a middle school teacher and a college lecturer. He is familiar with the math curriculum from kindergarten to grade 12; he likes interactive activities to help the students practice what they have learned and to keep them engaged and could help encourage more students to enjoy math and to succeed at it. As a researcher in science, he deeply understands the value of a good math education which goes far beyond the ability to get a good score on the SAT and get into college—it gives you the ability to think critically and solve real-world problems efficiently.  Being able to inspire students to look at mathematics in new and applicable ways is his commitment to Ann-Hua Chinese School.
