Multilingualism is quickly rising. As one of the most common world languages, being able to communicate effectively in English is a skill that can result in many opportunities. Refining English language and cross-cultural skills provides an array of educational, career, and social opportunities along with other benefits including increased cognitive function, adaptability, and memory. Through a combination of interactive and independent activities and assignments, this course will focus on English skills in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and cross-cultural communication. A student-centered approach will allow you to work on your skills in an engaging and enjoyable way. Rather than memorization, the emphasis will be on “real life” English and how to communicate effectively.

莉安 Lea Blander Biography
Hi, my name is Lea. I am originally from Ann Arbor Michigan, but when I was 15 my family moved for about two and a half years to Shanghai, China where I began studying Chinese. I moved back to the United States, lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, then graduated from Wittenberg University in May 2023 with a BA in Psychology and East Asian Studies. I also had minors in Chinese language and literature, international studies (and attended Yonsei International Summer School in 2022), and African diaspora studies. Now I am back in Ann Arbor eager to exchange knowledge, which I hope to do as a part of the Ann-Hua Chinese School community, instructing the Professional Training/English courses and improving my own Chinese language skills. Besides learning languages, I enjoy traveling, music, outdoor activities, and reading.
